It does happen, not always, just when they happen to have a room that wasn’t booked or seats not taken for a flight. My fiance’s cousin had this happen to her. They had a flight delay and people were getting really nasty, but she was very sweet to the receptionist(people who check you into the flight IDK what their title is) and struck up a conversation with her & told her it was their honeymoon. Well they had a few seats open in first class so she got 1 for her and her husband. The trick is letting EVERYONE know it’s your honeymoon and be nice, people respond well to kindness especially when every one else is being rude.
A lot of resorts and airlines offer upgrades because you will be on your honeymoon. It is costly though, so sometimes it is just better going the affordable way…remember you are going to be with the one you love, so although a penthouse suite would be fabulous – a regular room will work just as well…Good luck! And have fun! If you haven’t booked your honeymoon yet, check out the dominican republic they have a lot of all-inclusive resorts that are a big bang for your buck and offer great honeymoon packages! (Sol Melia Caribe Tropical in Punta Cana)
when you get to the hotel they usually try and start conversation try to drop in that you are on your honeymoon. Or if they don’t make a comment to your new spouse saying “oh I’m so happy we chose this palce it looks like a beatiful place for our honeymoon”. If you are going through a travel agent let them know its your honeymoon you are planning and they will do some nagging to get you upgrades. It looks bad if you nag for them but when a travel agent does it it doesn’t seem so bad.
Usually, if the upgrade is available they’ll give it to you, if the hotel is full you aren’t getting anything above what you paid for. Maybe a bottle of champagne or a complimentary dinner but that’s about it.
Good luck!
look nice when you check in. if you check in wearing a polo, it means more than if you check in wearing a t-shirt. but most of all…ask! you probably won’t get an upgrade while you’re making your travel plans, because the hotels want to make as much money as they cn. if they upgrade you free, that prevents someone else paying for it. so when you check in, just say “hey, it’s our honeymoon. is there anything special you can do for us?” my hubby and i went to vegas a couple weeks ago for his birthday. we checked in on his actual birthday, so when the guy at the desk asked what brought us to vegas he said “today’s my birthday! does that mean i can get a better room?” part of him was joking, but he was really hoping. we got upgraded to a room with an incredible view of the strip and the fountains at the bellagio. it never hurts to just ask! and be friendly with the poeple checking you in…so many customer service people get sh!t on every time there’s a problem, crabby people who had an unexpected delay in their flight, lost luggage…and the hotel front desk bears the brunt of their anger. don’t know why, but they do. so if you go in happy, and show them that you’re nice people, they’re much more likely to give you what you want, or go that extra little mile to make your honeymoom as special as it should be! best of luck, and congrats!
As others have mentioned, your travel agent will push for upgrades if you booked with an agent, otherwise the only thing you can do is mention that it’s your honeymoon when you book the hotels and flights to see if they can make a note of it.
The airlines and hotels will only make upgrades if space is available, so if you are traveling during peak season, then it’s highly likely that you won’t be upgraded during your trip. Traveling during the off-season is always the best advice though. My fiance and I travel off-season all the time and we have generally gotten upgrades at hotels and on planes, but it doesn’t happen every time and it is best to be polite to everyone along the way.
Best wishes!!!!!!!!!!!
Dress nicely.
Be polite to the staff.
Make sure they know it’s your honeymoon.
oh, tell them in every way you can! When my husband and I set up all our arrangements, we mentioned that we would be on our honeymoon. At the restaurants we were given special things: complimentary champagne and desserts, and at our hotel, friends of my parents called and let them know we were on our honeymoon and they upgraded us to the presidential suite, since it was unoccupied that weekend!
The point is, it never hurts to at least make it known-you never know what might get added in to make your trip extra special. Even if nobody does anything else, why not tell everyone? It’s such a happy time for you and your new spouse! Congrats!

When you call the hotel/resort or wherever you are staying let them know you are on your honeymoon & if they offer upgrades.
